Car Tuning / Remapping with Chipping Norton Car Servicing & Recovery

Our tuning services are developed in-house or in collaboration with our trusted partners to ensure the highest quality results. While we recommend dyno tuning for optimal performance, we understand that budget and other factors may not always allow for it. That’s why we offer both dyno and non-dyno tuning options to suit your needs.

ECU Remapping

ECU remapping is the process of modifying the software within your vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) to enhance performance, fuel efficiency, and overall drivability. The ECU controls key engine functions such as fuel injection, ignition timing, and turbo boost. Manufacturers often limit a vehicle’s power output for regulatory compliance or to suit a broad range of driving conditions. With a professional remap, we can optimize your engine’s settings to unlock hidden power and efficiency, tailored to your driving style.

Benefits of ECU Remapping

  • Increased power and torque for better acceleration and responsiveness

  • Improved fuel efficiency, especially in turbocharged diesel engines

  • Smoother power delivery and enhanced throttle response

  • Custom tuning to match your vehicle’s modifications and performance goals

Pre-Tuning Checks

Before any tuning is carried out, we perform a thorough vehicle health check and diagnostics to identify any potential underlying issues. We also conduct DPF checks, and if necessary, we can carry out a forced regeneration and adaptation adjustments to ensure your vehicle is in top condition before tuning.

Tuning Stages

Stage 1 – Performance & Efficiency

Ideal for standard (unmodified) vehicles, Stage 1 tuning enhances performance and driveability while maintaining fuel efficiency. This process typically takes up to 3 hours.

Stage 2 – Enhanced Power Output

Designed for vehicles with minor hardware upgrades, Stage 2 tuning allows us to extract more power than Stage 1. This process usually takes up to 4 hours.

Stage 3 – High-Performance Upgrades

For vehicles with significant hardware modifications, including hybrid turbos, camshafts, pulleys, injectors, and fuel pumps, Stage 3 tuning offers maximum performance gains. Due to the complexity, this service can take anywhere from 4 hours to 2 days.

How Does a Remap Extract More Power?

A remap fine-tunes engine parameters such as fuel injection timing, turbo boost pressure, and ignition timing. Most modern engines have untapped potential because manufacturers apply conservative settings to meet global regulations. By optimizing these settings, we ensure your engine operates at its full potential while maintaining reliability. Turbocharged engines, in particular, see significant performance improvements due to increased boost pressure and optimized fuel delivery.

Will a Remap Affect the MOT?

A properly performed ECU remap will not affect your car’s ability to pass an MOT test, as long as emissions regulations are adhered to. However, modifications that interfere with emissions control systems such as the DPF or catalytic converter may cause issues. Our remaps are designed to enhance performance while keeping emissions and vehicle reliability in check.
